Keeping My Head Above Water
Last year, while visiting my homegirl in Virginia, her cousin put me on to Human Design. Human design bridges science and spirituality through a system that combines elements of Eastern and Western astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah Tree of Life, the Hindu chakra system, and quantum physics, providing your unique energy blueprint that helps you understand yourself more deeply and align with your life’s purpose. To know me is to know this is the kind of subject matter that makes me nerd out.
Dreams Never Die
As a graphic + motion designer, I am one of the lucky people who get to do what I love as a career. But working in advertising is not my dream. My dream is to sustain a comfortable life with the money I make from my creativity, outside of having to clock into an office building. As a Manifesting Generator (more on my human design journey in a future post), I am a true multi-hyphenate who cannot be put into one box.
You Are Not a Tree, You Can Move
One of my favorite books is “Parable of the Sower” by Octavia Butler. It focuses on Lauren Olamina, a teenager living within a walled community in post-apocalyptic California as a result of the devastating effects of climate change, the rise of governmental control, and religious fanaticism. It’s also eerily set in 2024. Realizing the walls protecting her family will not last forever, she begins working on “Earthseed: The Books of the Living,” reflecting on how to ensure our survival in perilous times, we need to adapt to change and work together as a community.
New Year, New Drag
The year has kicked off, and it's time for everyone to make New Year’s resolutions. Whether or not we keep them is our business, but the intention is clearly there. The advent of 2025 calls for a review of ourselves and what new goals we are hoping to set and previous goals we are hoping to sustain. Personally, I love setting new goals for the year. The organization girlie in me loves creating vision boards and using the calendar databases in Notion to plan out all my projects in advance, such as projects like this Substack. (Thanks for being here, by the way 😌🫂)
