New Year, New Drag

The year has kicked off, and it's time for everyone to make New Year’s resolutions. Whether or not we keep them is our business, but the intention is clearly there. The advent of 2025 calls for a review of ourselves and what new goals we are hoping to set and previous goals we are hoping to sustain. Personally, I love setting new goals for the year. The organization girlie in me loves creating vision boards and using the calendar databases in Notion to plan out all my projects in advance, such as projects like this Substack. (Thanks for being here, by the way 😌🫂)

My vision for January is “Create More, Consume Less.”

This thought has been ruminating for a couple of months as I’ve become more conscious of my consumption habits, both retail and online. This means I’m reducing my impulsive shopping, letting the old thing complete its life cycle before I purchase the new version, and, most importantly, not wasting hours of YouTube videos on how to make “The Big Idea” happen instead of just making “The Big Idea.”

Truthfully, I didn’t actually start leaning into this spirit until about 10 days in, but once I finally started walking in that intention, my whole mindset shifted. Suddenly, I did more personal creative work in the first 20 days of the month than in the last 6 months of 2024. A lot of it is bad and will never see the light of day, but I’m still extremely proud of myself for sticking it out and making it anyway.

One of my main goals for 2025 is to create at least 24 GIFs based on my favorite holidays and cultural moments of the year. I’ve been struggling with creative block and needed a challenge to motivate me to actually make things, even if it’s rough for the first couple of months 🫣.

I’ll share my favorite of the month in these posts, but you can also follow along with my journey on Instagram and check out all of my GIFs on GIPHY.
